July 8th - July 15th

NEW YORK, NY. - For one week in New York City this summer, Three Kings Studio will play host to 730 thumb-sized artworks created by celebrated South African miniaturist, Lorraine Loots. It will be the artist’s first international showcase.

The 1x1 inch watercolor renderings are the product of Loots’s two-year, self-imposed mission to create and complete one piece a day, everyday, for a full year, starting with her 2013 debut series, 365 Paintings for Ants. She returned again in 2014 with 365 Postcards for Ants, an homage to the spaces and imagery of her home country.

The 30-year-old Cape Town artist has garnered international attention both for her remarkable ability to create highly detailed work with a naked eye, and for reinventing the forgotten 18th century diminutive artform for the Instagram age. Since 2014 her work has been featured on CNN, The Huffington Post, Colossal, Buzzfeed, and the daily newsfeeds of over 181,000 online followers. She is currently working on her third and most recent endeavour, Potluck 100, which can be followed on instagram.

Ants in NYC will feature print reproductions of both collections, and will also include a handful of New York-inspired originals, created in New York, for New York. The exhibition will be open to the public on the Wednesday, 8 July at 19h00.
